Hi guys, I’m Michael and I’m a self-identified espresso aficionado and proud of it.
I fell in love with the drink while traveling through Europe and have been perfecting my cup at home ever since! I love my Breville Barista Express and it has transformed my morning coffee routine into more of a ritual. I can usually be found making a latte for my wife and either a straight shot or Americano for me.
I have sipped espresso all over the world, but my favorites have been in Indonesia, Portugal and back home on the west coast of the United States.
Indonesia brewed their coffee differently from any place I have ever been. It was thick and strong and the iced coffees were smooth and incredibly flavorful. I also tried the infamous “cat poop” coffee (processed by a Luwak) and while the novelty of it was pretty rad, I wasn’t impressed enough to drink it again.
In Portugal, I got used to drinking cafe duplo several times a day (a double shot), interspersed with frothy cappuccinos topped with a sprinkling of chocolate. In Belem, my wife and I even enjoyed a cappuccino with whipped cream while we ate pastries. I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty hard to come home from that trip.
I visited Portland, Oregon last year and really enjoyed visiting the tiny, blink and you miss it, St. Simon coffee shop and trying their flight of cold brews. The flavor profiles were all really different and it gave me a whole new appreciation for iced coffee.
In California, where I’m from, my all time favorite coffee is from Equator. I used to live closer to it, but now it’s about a 2 hour drive. I still love to stop in for a latte when I can. It’s the smoothest espresso I’ve ever had and I haven’t found anything I like as much since. They’ve pretty much ruined me in the best way.
This website is my passion project. I love connecting with other espresso junkies and nerding out over machines, beans, favorite coffee shops and techniques. I’m always in search of my next favorite cup, so feel free to share your recs!
